The true measure of cashmere quality lies in the fineness of its fibers, expressed in microns. This measurement determines both the softness and durability of the garment. The lower the micron count, the finer and more valuable the cashmere.

Cashmere fibers typically range between 14 and 30 microns. Lower-grade cashmere uses thicker fibers, which feel coarser and are more prone to pilling over time. Exceptional cashmere, however, is defined by ultra-fine fibers that remain soft, resilient, and refined with wear.

At Nonchi, we work exclusively with 14–15 micron cashmere, placing our knitwear among the finest quality available. This level of fineness ensures a naturally soft feel, lasting beauty, and a garment that becomes even more luxurious over time.

Cashmere should feel luxuriously soft, but never unnaturally so. Extreme softness can be misleading and it is often the result of chemical softeners added to the fibers. While this creates an immediate silky feel, it fades after washing and wears away over time.
