Fineness Matters
The true measure of cashmere quality lies in the fineness of its fibers, measured in microns. The lower the micron count, the more refined the cashmere feels and the more beautifully it ages over time.
Fiber Range (microns)
Cashmere fibers range typically from 14 to 30 microns. Finer fibers create knitwear that feels naturally soft, pills less, and retains its shape and elegance with wear. Thicker fibers feel coarser, lose softness more quickly, and are more prone to pilling. Luxury brands typically use 16–19 microns, while mid-range brands often exceed 19 microns.

Cashmere from Kashmir
Nonchi’s cashmere comes from goats in Kashmir, a mountainous region in the western Himalayas where cashmere was first discovered and prized for centuries. These goats grow an ultra-fine undercoat, producing fibers known as Pashmina.
Today, only about 1% of global production is true Kashmiri Pashmina, making each piece exceptionally exclusive. Nonchi sources directly from this region, respecting the heritage and traditional practices of local herders.

Softness is important, but can be misleading
Cashmere should feel luxuriously soft, but never unnaturally so. If a sweater feels “too soft” or has a slippery coating, it is a strong indication it has been chemically treated. Over time and after washing, this artificial softness fades, the garment loses resilience, and the fibers become thinner and less durable. This is often the case with lower-quality cashmere, where short-term feel is prioritized over lasting quality.
High-quality cashmere, like Nonchi’s, is different. Our knitwear is naturally soft and never overly soft: more like a gentle, soft wool. Over time, it softens even more with wear, enhancing the comfort and richness of each piece without losing its integrity or softness after washing.
