Virgin Baby Cashmere

In the highlands of Kashmir, where freezing winters and dramatic changes between the seasons shape life, the Kashmir goat has developed a remarkable natural protection against the cold: an exceptionally fine undercoat known as Pashmina.

For generations, this precious fibre has been part of Kashmir’s rich textile heritage. Kashmiri artisans have perfected the art of spinning, weaving and working with these delicate fibres by hand, creating textiles renowned for their exceptional softness, warmth and lightness.

For Virgin Baby Cashmere, we use the exceptionally fine fibres from a young cashmere goat’s first coat. When spring arrives, this delicate first fleece is gently combed for the first time. The fibres are exceptionally fine, light and rare, giving Baby Cashmere its distinctive softness and delicate feel.

Their exceptional fineness gives Virgin Baby Cashmere an almost weightless softness, while the natural length and strength of the fibres help each piece retain its beautiful structure over time.

The word cashmere itself comes from Kashmir, reflecting the region’s centuries-old relationship with this extraordinary fibre.

Cashmere from Kashmir

High in the western Himalayas lies Kashmir, a region of extraordinary natural beauty and some of the most extreme landscapes on earth. High altitudes, freezing winters and dramatic changes between the seasons have shaped a unique way of life for centuries.

It is within these Himalayan landscapes that the Changthangi goat has lived for generations. To withstand the intense cold, the goat naturally develops an exceptionally fine undercoat: the precious fibre known as Pashmina.

This fibre became deeply woven into the heritage of Kashmir. For centuries, Kashmiri artisans have perfected the craft of spinning, weaving and working with these delicate fibres by hand. Their craftsmanship gave rise to textiles renowned throughout the world for their exceptional softness, warmth and lightness.

The word cashmere itself comes from Kashmir, reflecting the region’s long and influential history with this extraordinary fibre.
